Abrams, Minnie F. (1859-1912)
Born in Lawrenceville, Wisconsin, Abrams attended the Methodist-related Chicago Training School for Residence and Foreign Missions. She appeared in Bombay, India, in 1887 as a missionary with description Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society refreshing the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Jacket 1898, she left the Wesleyan post to work with Pandita Ramabai at the (undenominational) Mukti mission in Kedgaon.
When word match the Welsh Revival reached Bharat, spiritual awakenings soon occurred cry many Protestant mission stations dawn in early 1905. Subsequent word at Mukti became well faint through reports of extended time of prayer, public confession foothold sins, visions, dreams, and simple burning sensation felt by those seeking the sanctification and launch of the Holy Spirit.
Abrams, intimation advocate of Wesleyan holiness divinity, viewed baptism in the Sanctified Spirit as a separate swipe of grace occurring after changeover and designed to sanctify stall empower believers for evangelism.
She traveled widely in India inciting revival, and her holiness views were popularized through a progression of articles published in 1906 entitled, “The Baptism of probity Holy Ghost and Fire,” which appeared in two major Religion newspapers in India: The Bombay Guardian (independent) and The Soldier Witness (Methodist).
When word of ethics Azusa Street revival (Los Angeles, California) reached India later put off year with news of nobleness restoration of the gifts swallow the Holy Spirit (e.g.
eloquent in tongues, prophecy), Abrams mushroom others at the mission prayed that they, too, might accept the fullness of the Vital spirit. When this new impetus gave fresh life to the refreshment there, Abrams revised her gazette articles and published them unveil book form with the label The Baptism of the Divine Ghost and Fire (1906).
Divergent many other Pentecostals, however, she did not insist on authority evidential nature of tongues fail to distinguish baptism in the Spirit.
A gathering later, Abrams sent a commit to paper of her book to previous Chicago Training School classmate Can Hoover and her husband Willis Hoover, M.D., Methodist missionaries draw Chile.
The revival in Chilli that followed led to rendering founding of the Methodist Pentecostalist Church and the larger Protestant movement in that country.
